Choosing a grade

Tell us the specification on your drawings. If you’re not sure, describe the application (structural, pressure vessel, bridge, general fabrication) and we’ll help match it to a listed specification. Final grade selection is the responsibility of your engineer.

What to include in your request

Specification, thickness, width × length (or cut sizes), quantity in pieces or weight, destination, required-by date, and any cutting or testing requirements.

Structural fabrication

A-36 and A-572 Gr 50 / Gr 65 are structural steel standards: columns, base plates, gussets, frames.

Pressure vessels and tanks

A-285 Gr C, A-516 Gr 70 and SA 516 are pressure vessel plate standards.

Bridges

A-709 Gr 50 is the structural steel standard for bridges.

General fabrication

A-283 Gr C covers low and intermediate tensile strength carbon plate.

Based on the general scope of each standard. Your engineer confirms the right specification for the application.
